As we head into Colorado’s cold and dry winter, it’s important to take care of your skin. To keep your skin feeling soft and healthy, our resident skin expert Danielle Forshay gives us tips to beat the season.

1. Exfoliate 3 Times a Week.
Using a gentle exfoliant three times a week clears away dead skin, and allows the healthy skin underneath to soak in more moisture.

2. Turn Down the Heat!
Keeping the heat on full blast in your house not only runs up your energy bill, but it is extremely drying to the skin.

3. Take Fewer Baths.
Although a good bath can be relaxing, the water in the tub pulls moisture from your skin (thus the reason you get wrinkled fingers!). Try to keep baths to a minimum.

4. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen…
Just because it is freezing outside doesn’t mean that the sun’s UV rays can’t reach you and damage your skin! Continue to wear sunscreen even in the colder months. A good way to do this is with a tinted moisturizer or primer, which goes underneath foundation.

5. Up Your Moisturizer Use
The most simple of the tips, but also the most important. Increase your use of moisturizer and lotions, since the dryness of the season makes your skin thirsty!

Do you recommend a particular moisturizer?

Hi Amanda,
We carry dermalogica and I think they have great moisturizers. When winter comes most people need to get a thicker moisturizer than what they use in the summer. In the summer we have a tendency to use oil free but in the winter your skin needs alittle bit more. You can always come in and Rachel or I can take a look and get you the right moisturizer for your skin during these cold winter months :)

Thanks so much for this information I tried 1-3 and feel great!
