We are so excited to announce the winners of the 2009 Paul Mitchell Photo Shoot Competition! In a fierce competition across the globe this past fall, Paul Mitchell National Educators submitted their portfolio entries highlighting their top cuts, color and styles of their career, along with their brainstormed inspiration boards for their dream editorial shoot for the judges’ consideration. All with the hope of clenching the prize of a photo shoot in Los Angeles under the mentorship of Paul Mitchell Editorial Director and NAHA (North America Hairstylist Awards) winner Lucie Doughty.

The 2009 Paul Mitchell Photo Shoot Contest winners are as follows:

·         Danielle Valiente – Phoenix, Arizona

·         Kara Forshay – Denver, Colorado

·         Martin Emmenegger – Lucerne, Switzerland

“The Paul Mitchell photo shoot contest has drawn amazing talent from all over the world,” says Lucie Doughty, Editorial director for JPMS and one of the contest judges. “The entrants from last year’s contest set the standard by getting international magazine covers and plenty of press for themselves, their work and their salons. This year’s entrants are proving to be just as exceptional with their vision. Photo shoots are another artistic medium for hair stylists because it forces you to work with hair in a way that you may not get to explore in a salon setting. I am really looking forward to working with such a talented group of people and getting some images that will inspire our industry.”

All entrants’ submissions were required to include photos of their current work, a storyboard of their desired Paul Mitchell shoot, and a letter about the artist and why they should be chosen. After much deliberation, these three artists were chosen based on skill representation with their current work, creativity and vision for the proposed finalist shoot.

All winners will be flown out to Los Angeles this spring/summer, where they will work closely with Doughty to bring their creative idea to life, working with a top editorial photographer, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist and models. Each winner will choose their specific model on which to create three different styles to showcase their artistic range. Photos will then be considered for Paul Mitchell’s Cut & Dry magazine which is distributed to nearly 100,000 salons, beauty trade magazines and the www.paulmitchell.com Web site.

Please join me in congratulating these 2009 winners, as well as all of the extremely talented individuals who entered this year’s competition!!
